We’ve all thought that – many people just don’t understand you, let alone your vision and what you are trying to do. Even when you spell it out, and it is firmly engrained in your Business Strategy, your Business Objectives, your Business’ Values, and your Business PROCESS which I spoke about last week.
Is it that you really are ‘Surrounded by Idiots’ or – as in the book by Thomas Erikson* – you simply don’t understand what makes other people tick? It’s worth a read – and no – I’m not on commission!
In the world of small business, business owners who have small teams may not have the time to understand the team dynamic, and how to get the best out of your people. Trust me. It is worth the time and effort, and will PAY OFF ON YOUR BOTTOM LINE.
I have just run a virtual training course with a small business – a group of 8 people – all working currently from home as has been the case over the past year. Just by highlighting different personality traits, positive and negative indicators of such behaviours, and framing this around their own teams, their peers, and their line managers, in the light of how they operate, we have got some real ACTIONS about how they are going to change and become more productive as a business.
The smoother and more productive the interactions are with clients, and in-house interactions with their own team and all within the business, it is simple to see how this will pay off in efficiencies, in building sales pipeline and conversion, and in productivity to produce the product and the service that business provides.
Simply put – the way person functions at work, the way they like to communicate, and their own personality trait will wind some people up and get in the way of an efficient and productive business process. Understanding and changing what we do and how we do it in by being mindful of the way other people ‘tick’ is more than just self-indulgent clap trap.. It will affect your profit.
Have a look at yourself. Have a look at your team. Understand them and allow them to understand you. It will pay off on your bottom line.
